If you don’t own these tassel earrings you might have missed the boat. I don’t know a single person
who doesn’t own these earrings now and on a daily basis I count all the different colours that I see on passers-by on the tube. My current record is 8. However, no matter how hard I’ve looked I can’t really find the origins of these earrings and where they came from. In all honesty most earrings like this are inspired by Oscar De La Renta who is the king of statement tassel earrings, but I feel that I might look at a painting and see that Botticelli’s Venus was wearing them when she stepped out of that shell or that Marie Antoinette probably owned a pair and that Cleopatra was buried in hers.
Either way I can see why they have great appeal and have been so popular. It was especially different to see so many people wearing these in the winter as well. A triumphant vibrant statement that earrings like this are not just for summer.

However, I think 2018 will be the last summer for these as anyone who didn’t have them last year will probably have bought them now. Still I thought I would round up all the colours and prices just to see the abundant choice and show the scale of how these were the most popular earrings in 2017/18.

The most popular colours I’ve seen are black, red, green and dark blue. These seem quite good in the winter when some people don’t want to wear neon but I think I prefer these ones a little bit more with red being my suggestion if you still want to get a pair. The most wonderful thing about red is that it’s the brightest neutral colour there is and is great for adding a colour accent, think shoes and lipstick, when you don’t like wearing a bold colour.
