Designer or High Street - Save or Splurge - Jewellery Blog - Malachite Earrings - Jewellery Blog

This save or splurge is slightly different as I am comparing three designs that are strikingly similar rather than just the standard two. I've seen a dramatic rise in malachite gemstone jewellery over the last year as green coloured gems continue to be popular. I feel it's because the opaque colour makes for a bold contrast against the metallic gold. Malachite also lend's itself well to cabochon and cuts with fewer facets rather than clear stones which tend to look more reflective with more facets. Can you tell which is the most expensive out of these three earrings?

Did you guess which was the most expensive? I reveal these malachite earrings from Astley Clarke and are the splurge from our article today. They are part of the Stilla collection and feature a green malachite gemstone sphere that adds balance to the oval-shaped hoops of 18-carat yellow gold plated sterling silver. They are inspired by the flamboyant style of Peggy Guggenheim and the kinetic work of artist Alexander Calder

These earrings from Oliver Bonas are the most economic pair of the three earrings. With a bead and bar shape, these earrings play with asymmetry with the sculptural Zuri Mixed Shape Bar & Bead Stud Earrings. The bar doesn't go through a piercing like the Astley Clake or our 3rd designer. The metal is described as base metal, and the bluey green spheres are resin.

Designed in the Stockholm studio of & Other Stories these green earrings combine soft curves with striking lines. Unlike the Astley Clake pair, the gold doesn't surround the green stone at the bottom but rather at the top of the straight facet.

My favourite pair of the three earrings is the Astley Clarke pair as I prefer to wear vermeil earrings and natural stones if possible. However, I really like the & Other Stories pair as well.
