I love it when you can look at a piece of jewellery and know who designed it without having to see a label or a box. It's the sign of real signature style and craftsmanship. Alison Lou is one of those designers. Her pieces are easily identifiable with fun and playful designs. The creative genius behind Alison Lou is Alison Chemla who was inspired by the deceptive simplicity of modern communication and beyond. Her first collection Emoticore is a cheeky and thoughtful commentary on the expression of feelings from the banal to the intimate through the language of emoticons and emojis.
More recent collection themes include Casino to Secret Garden, with the jewellery always remaining playful in its approach. Alison Lou’s most recent collection, Mama Mia, was dreamed up after a summer trip to Italy. The collection consists of designs inspired by everyone's favourite pasta - farfalle, penne, and spaghetti to name a few.
At the moment I'm coveting her enamel signet rings which have a real pop art statement with colour and lines. I think mixing the calligraphy script with the bright enamel makes for an unusual combination that you have to see to believe. I often struggle with O as an initial and in a more flouncy font know that it would look smashing compared to a plain round O. These signet rings are made in 14k gold in New York. My other recent favourite piece is this simple croissant stud. What can I say girl loves carb free croissant and sparkling emeralds.
