Tortoiseshell jewellery exploded on to the scene last year and is set to be the firm favourite for 2019. I have seen these earrings in every guise possible from hoops, statement drop all the way to studs. I think these have been so popular is because the brown and black pattern suits every person and for a patterned item they are incredibly neutral. The versatility and neutrality of these earrings mean that you can wear a larger pair of earrings without looking like you're trying too hard or if you're not ready for bold summer earrings yet and want to test the waters out with these.

It's weird to think that it's called tortoiseshell as originally that's the material it was made out of, yes real tortoise shell, nowadays it's plastic that's been made to have the same effect. We seem to be loving neutral colours at the moment such as mustard, lovat and tan and I think these earrings have slotted beautifully into that trend. Considering the most popular earring of 2018 was the bright tassel earrings that everyone owned, you'll know the ones I mean, check them out here, tortoiseshell is a refreshing departure.

I have a feeling that as we're in the middling phase of this trend it's possible that tortoise shell won't be a big thing in 2020 so if you want to wear this trend get yourself a pair of these asap! The only similar trend to the 2018 tassel earrings is that the price of tortoiseshell earrings is incredibly affordable. I've rounded up a few different pairs which I think showcase this trend beautifully and will help you narrow down the ideal pair for you!
